Hey Transfers!
So today was officially the end of the semester, the last finals were given and now we all get to enjoy a well- deserved break! It was a pleasure meeting all of you and getting to know you at the transfer events throughout the year and I am looking forward to meeting all of our new transfer students next year! For those of you who are interested in transferring to Adelphi make sure you call the admissions office at (516) 877-3050 and make an appointment to take a tour of our beautiful campus and speak with one of the wonderful admissions counselors. The office is open during the summer- so take advantage of that! Transferring to Adelphiwas truly the best decision I made and I cannot imagine my college life anywhere else.
Enjoy your summer and I will see you all in the fall! : )

A majority of Adelphi students responded positively when asked if they would contact the IT Help Desk via a live chat if the service was available. Based on that feedback, IT has implemented a Live Chat Support service as an alternate way to contact the Help Desk for technical support.
When you are on any of the IT web pages look for the icon shown at left. Click the button, fill out the short form and submit, and a representative will respond via live chat shortly.
When agents are available, the icon will indicate “ONLINE”. But when there are no support representatives available the icon will change to “OFFLINE” and instead of a live chat session it will allow you to leave a text message that will be responded to when the next Help Desk representative is available.
Or if you are logged in to eCampus, look for this icon under the Services tab to initiate a live support chat with a Help Desk representative. ![]()
So now when you need a little tech support you have several options available, choose the one that is most comfortable for you:
As I was strolling down a street in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego a couple weeks ago, I stumbled upon a random art gallery. Neatly tucked away in an upstairs loft above a restaurant, this art gallery changed my evening into more of an “awakening” than I would have ever thought I would experience when I left my hotel room that night.
Let me back track a little and tell you about my art filled childhood. In elementary school, I was painfully shy and didn’t really take an interest in anything other than drawing and painting. Art class assignments and my own after school art projects filled my walls and of course, our refrigerator. I don’t know when it happened, but I slowly grew away from my love for art and creating. I forgot about it and took up different interests for whatever reason. Maybe it’s time to strike up that hobby again. I never even thought about this until I walked up the stairs into this vibrant art gallery that night.
My friend Andrew was with me and we had no particular schedule that night, so we floated in and out of places just exploring downtown San Diego. Nothing really caught our attention until we took that last step up into the art studio/gallery. Grant Pecoff, the artist, was there at his desk to warmly welcome us into his colorful loft. It was filled with the most unique paintings capturing scenes of the worldly destinations his work has brought him. Vibrant colors of turquoise, radiant orange, and indigo took over his canvases and demanded attention. Behind his art were stories and experiences of a life well lived.
He told us about how his wife stumbled upon his gallery one day the same way we had that night. After an entire lifetime of hearing a little voice in her head itching to go to California from the east coast life she was accustomed to living, she walked into Grant’s art gallery to find everything she was looking for. Five weeks later they left on a trip to Europe to be married.
My point is, let life take you where ever it wants. If there is a little voice telling you something, maybe it’s not so crazy. The truth is, most of us take quite some time to get to where we’re supposed to be. Some of us never figure it out but enjoy the ride along the way. Grant’s wife, Layne, now writes inspirational books about where life takes us and how we should follow our dreams. Meanwhile, Grant provides the artwork for the books and they work as a team to create these awesome and uplifting works. Having purchased one of the books, I encourage you to check them out too (he has a great website!). One part that stood out to me was a paragraph towards the end of the book about ‘leaping’. How we strive to make our dreams come true and are always wondering how to get ‘there’, and how we need to take a ‘leap’ of faith in order to reach what we really want!
As graduation day comes and goes, give yourself some time to really think about what you want to do, where you want to be, and what that little voice is telling you!
In this last post of the 2011-2012 year we say "so long" (not goodbye) to two retiring colleagues, Carol Diakow and Laraine Fletcher, to whom we wish happy and exciting times ahead.
To everyone we wish a safe and restful summer.

The following students have received the first Greek Scholarships: Corey Nyhus Senior Honors College Dhimitra Papadhimitri FreshmanThis is an update to the Geek Speak blog post on April 11, 2012, written by Kees, Malware for Mac OSX (Flashback.) At that time it was stated that we believe that no Macs that are managed by Adelphi IT had been compromised on our network. While that statement is still true, today there are several Macs owned by students and alumni using the Adelphi network that are currently being detected by our Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and appear to be infected with this virus.
With the information from the IPS we will attempt to locate the owner(s) of the compromised Mac and contact them through the IT Help Desk. If you get a voicemail, email or a door hanger tag from the Help Desk asking you to contact them please do not ignore it! The security of the information on your Mac and on the Adelphi network are at risk until the virus is removed and the security fixes are applied.
Apple has recently released a Java software update that includes automatic detection and Flashback removal ability. This software security update is recommended for all Mac users to install, even if you have previously checked your system for infection. Go to “Software Update” from the Apple menu to download that update and remove the trojan if it is on your Mac.

The end is finally near! Spring semester is almost over and everyone’s favorite time of the year is so close – summer! Now that we all have officially ended classes and we are just a few short days away from our final exams, everyone is busy studying and writing final papers. It is stressful trying to fit in time to study for all my tests; I know that if I just focus and take a deep breath finals will be over before I know it.
It is a relief knowing that Swirbull library is open 24/7 during finals week because many of us literally tend to hibernate here. The library is hopping, but it is a great place to be productive. Everyone has their own study habits either studying with a group of classmates or on their own. I know for me being in a quiet space with no distractions helps. The most important thing to remember is to stay organized and take occasional breaks in order to retain everything you study.
Even though classes are practically over, summer is still a great chance to begin your college search, especially high school juniors. There will be several Information Sessions running in both June and August. Our tour guides look forward to returning to campus to show those attending our favorite places! Register on the Adelphi Website under Admissions Events for these great days at Adelphi and can’t wait to see you all there! I know that our hard work will soon pay off! Good luck on finals everyone and congratulations to all Adelphi graduating seniors!
Greetings everyone! As the semester wraps up and departments look to enrolling next year's class, it is important to keep vigilant track of the deadlines for any graduate programs to which you are applying. Many schools have varying prerequisite requirements, admissions tests and deadlines, and it can certainly be difficult at times to juggle them all.
Several of Adelphi's graduate and doctoral programs operate on a rolling admissions basis. However, two of our programs have deadlines coming up next week: the School of Social Work's Advanced Standing M.S.W. program and the Ph. D. in Social Work program both have application deadlines of May 15. Applications submitted after May 15 will only be considered on a case-by-case basis. So if you are considering either of these programs and have not applied yet, do it today!
The Department of Communications would like to invite everyone to the Student Film and Video Festival Thursday May 10th in the Olmsted Theatre at 7pm. This free event is part of a full day of celebrating student works; starting in Blodgett 110 with a Honorable Mentions screening from 1-5pm and ending back in Blodgett with an After Party where festival winners will be announcement.
