North Carolina State University at Raleigh

North Carolina State University at Raleigh is a public, coeducational, extensive research university located in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. Commonly known as NC State, NCSU, or simply “State” inside of North Carolina, the University is part of the University of North Carolina system and is a land, sea, and space grant institution.

The North Carolina General Assembly founded the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, now NC State, on March 7, 1887, as a land-grant college. Today, NC State has an enrollment of more than 33,000 students, making it the largest university in North Carolina. While NC State has historical strengths in agriculture, design, engineering and textiles, it offers 115 bachelor’s degrees. The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, & Public Service is the university’s premiere center dedicated to developing cultured students. The graduate school offers more than 100 areas of study leading to 169 master’s, 69 doctoral degrees, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

North Carolina State University at Raleigh Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees for North Carolina residents are among the lowest in the nation. Fellowships andassistantships are also available to help defray the expense of graduate school. Applicants for these positions should correspond directly with the department of major interest. All financial aid recipients are selected on merit-based competition with other applicants. However, most fellowships are restricted to U.S. citizens and require Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.

Tuition Remission:

Non-resident graduate students awarded assistantships or fellowships may be eligible for tuition remission comparable to the in-state rate. To be eligible, non-residents must

  1. have a graduate Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 or be enrolling at NC State as a graduate student for the first time;
  2. hold a teaching assistantship, a research assistantship and/or a fellowship;
  3. receive a total stipend from all sources of at least $666.67 per month; and
  4. be registered for an appropriate course load and making satisfactory progress toward the degree (as determined by the Director of Graduate Programs in the student’s department).

Orientation and Computer Fees:

First-year graduate students are charged an orientation fee of $15. All graduate students enrolled in the College of Engineering are charged a computer fee of $45/semester, regardless of hours carried. This fee provides access to the Eos Engineering Computing Network. In summer, graduate students who are not enrolled in summer school but are preregistered for the fall semester will continue to have computing privileges all summer at no charge. If enrolled in a summer term, the Eos fee is $15.

Financial Aid:

Applicants may request financial aid on the application for admission; there is not a separate financial aid request form. Those who plan to request financial aid are encouraged to submit complete applications well in advance of the admission deadlines.
