Old Dominion University, located in the City of Norfolk in the metropolitan Hampton Roads region of coastal Virginia, is a dynamic public research institution that serves its students and enriches the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation and the world through rigorous academic programs, strategic partnerships, and active civic engagement.  Old Dominion University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Old Dominion University was founded in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of The College of William and Mary and became an independent institution in 1962; gained university status in 1969
