University of Oregon

The University of Oregon (UO) is a public, coeducational research university in Eugene, Oregon, United States. The second oldest public university in the state, UO was founded in 1876, and graduated its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. The Carnegie Foundation classifies the University of Oregon as a “high research activity” university. Richard W. Lariviere is the current president of the university. The University of Oregon receives much of its funding from the UO Foundation, an independent not-for-profit organization.

The University of Oregon, founded in 1876, is the state’s flagship institution. Located in Eugene, an energetic college town, the university offers academic excellence and hands-on learning opportunities in a welcoming atmosphere. Towering trees shade the 295-acre campus, where students, faculty members, and employees from a wide variety of backgrounds share a commitment to preserving the environment and pursuing innovation in more than 260 academic programs that range from Eugene to Portland and from the coast to the mountains.

    EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 21, 2012) – UO TeachOUT, a two-day conference on educational issues related to gender and sexuality inequality in schools, will be held May 23-24 at the University of Oregon. The event will offer a series of workshops, lectures and a leadership summit.
  • UO professor authors master plan criteria for Department of Defense - Mon, 21 May 2012
    Mark GillemEUGENE, Ore. -- (May 21, 2012) -- The U.S. Department of Defense announced this month that it has adopted new master plan criteria for sustainable development authored by Mark Gillem, an associate professor in the University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Allied Arts.The publication includes planning strategies and procedures that were developed over an 18-month period and that will direct construction at the Defense Department’s 300,000 buildings worldwide, valued at roughly $600 billion. The policies also pertain to landscaping and roads at all military installations.

The conference includes keynote presentations and student research presentations about the impacts of climate change on indigenous and native communities. All events are free and open to the public.
