The University of South Dakota (USD), the state’s oldest university, was founded in 1862 and classes began in 1882. Located in Vermillion, South Dakota, United States, USD is home to South Dakota’s only medical school and law school. USD is governed by the South Dakota Board of Regents.  The University of South Dakota, founded in 1862, is the state’s flagship institution, the oldest university and is designated as the only public liberal arts university in South Dakota. We’re the big-time university with a small-college feel. University of South Dakota offers 132 undergraduate programs, majors and minors and 62 graduate programs.

  • USD FMA chapter honored as Superior Chapter for 12th straight year - Tue, 15 May 2012
    The Financial Management Association International (FMA) chapter at the University of South Dakota has earned FMA International's highly coveted FMA Superior Chapter Award for the 12th consecutive year. Presented to fewer than 5 percent of FMA chapters across the United States, USD's FMA chapter was recognized for its overall excellence during the 2011-12 academic year.
  • Students compete in first USD-Wells Fargo Equity Research Competition - Fri, 11 May 2012
    The University of South Dakota Department of Finance recently partnered with Wells Fargo EFS to sponsor the first USD-Wells Fargo Student Equity Research Competition. Through a donation from Wells Fargo to the USD Finance Department, 11 students competed in the equity research competition, which allowed the participants to gain investment analysis and valuation experience.

  • Beacom School of Business graduates score top 3 percent in national exam - Mon, 07 May 2012
    Graduating seniors from the University of South Dakota Beacom School of Business scored in the 97th percentile in a national exam for business school graduates. In a test administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) of Princeton, N.J., USD scored a new institutional high, 163.9 scaled score, putting the students in the top 3 percent.
  • College of Fine Arts presents Knutson Award to music history professor - Fri, 04 May 2012
    David Moskowitz, Ph.D., is the 2012 recipient of the Knutson Distinguished Professor Award presented by the College of Fine Arts at the University of South Dakota. Moskowitz, professor of music history in the USD Department of Music, was selected following a committee review of several applicants.
