Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, popularly known as Virginia Tech (VT), is a land-grant university in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States.

Virginia Tech was Founded in 1872 as an agricultural and mechanical land-grant college, Virginia Tech is a comprehensive, innovative research university with the largest full-time student population in Virginia and one of the few public universities in the United States that maintains a corps of cadets.

The Virginia Tech campus is located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The central campus is roughly bordered by Prices Fork Road to the northwest, Plantation Drive to the west, Main Street to the east, and US 460 Bypass to the south, though it has several thousand acres beyond the central campus. The university has established branch campuses in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach), the National Capital Region (Northern Virginia Center Falls Church and Urban Affairs & Planning Program (Masters and Ph.D. in urban and regional planning) at its Old Town Alexandria, Virginia) campus, Richmond, Roanoke, and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon.

In compliance with Virginia state law, students classified as in-state undergraduate students who enroll at a state educational institution August 1, 2006 or later will be assessed a tuition surcharge for each semester after 125% of the degree requirements for their program has been completed. The amount of the surcharge, established by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia, is equal to 100% of the Average Cost of Education for the institution less tuition and mandatory Educational and General fees for in state undergraduates. Please refer to the Office of the University Registrar for additional information and exemptions to the surcharge.

FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE VIRGINIA RESIDENTS WILL RECEIVE A $65 PER SEMESTER AMERICAN REINVESTMENT AND RECOVERY ACT (ARRA) MITIGATION GRANT TO OFFSET COSTS OF TUITION AND FEES RESULTING IN A NET TUITION RATE OF $3,654.50. REDUCED AMOUNTS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PART-TIME STUDENTS.

If enrolled in 1-6 credit hours, the technology fee is $10.75 and the academic fee is $92.50 per semester. If enrolled in 7 or more credit hours the technology fee is $21.50 and the academic fee is $185.00 per semester. Blacksburg campus students enrolled for more than 3 credit hours per term are also required to pay comprehensive fees. Non-VA residents are required to pay the Capital and Equipment Fee ($142.25 for 1-6 credit hours or $284.50 for 7 or more credit hours).
